Every year, I celebrate World Goth Day with a set of original portraits. This year’s project, a triptych titled The Cross, The Wolf, and The Cobweb, begins with The Cross—a portrait of online goth personality @jinxaddie. Painted in rich oil and acrylic on A3 board, the piece melds a fluid marbled background with piercing, confident detail work.
Unlike mainstream representations of goths as androgynous supermodels or fantasy clichés, McDark Art strives to paint “everyday goths”—those whose identities are lived and worn rather than performed. This piece, part of a tradition going back several years, is a call to visibility for all those in the subculture who rarely see themselves in art.
An short video of me painting the piece can be found on Tikok here, and more info can be found on my Patron and Kofi .Full galler of World Goth Day Portraits will be online soon.
